Find Top-rated Local Exposed Aggregate Concreter For Your Building
Do you have a driveway, a patio, a poolside, or a retaining wall deck that you would like to upgrade? Concrete pebbles, or exposed aggregate concrete, are just the thing you are looking for if you are working on a concrete project. The surface has a stylish modern look and it is highly durable, so exposed aggregate concrete offers a new contemporary look. Although the cost may be higher compared to the other concrete options as polished or plain concrete, the beauty and longevity will surely be worth the investment.
Exposed aggregate concrete is produced through the removal of the top layer of cement where stones, pebbles, sand, gravel, shells or glass can be added as decorative elements. Professional installation cannot be overstated when it comes to achieving the best results. A particular blend of aggregate and concrete is poured into the desired shape, after which a procedure—chemical or mechanical—lifts out the aggregate. Sealing the surface after that provides additional durability and longer life.
ServiceTasker streamlines the procedure of locating experienced exposed aggregate concreters for your project. What Are the Main Benefits of this Finish?
Exposed aggregate concrete, also referred to as pebblecrete, offers numerous benefits that make it a perfect option for many different residential projects. Here's why it stands out:
- A High-End Designer Appeal: This style gives you unlimited design options and adds a touch of sophistication to any area. Making use of different stones and pebbles can help to complete the surface and turn it into a masterpiece. A skilful installation ensures that your driveways, patios, or pool decks will be eye-catching and enhance your home's overall attractiveness.
- An Enhanced Level of Traction: Apart from its aesthetic appeal, this finish also presents a variety of practical advantages. It has a natural, textured feel, making any surface significantly more slip-resistant than a standard smooth finish. It won't matter if it is a cold winter morning or a rainy afternoon, as the security of your footing and your safety will always be there for you.
- A Low-Maintenance Solution: Are you concerned about upkeep? This material demands very little maintenance. The application of a protective sealant ensures the surface stays safe from damage and staining, making it possible to clean it with just rainwater or a simple hose spray. Re-sealing every 2 to 3 years helps keep it looking like new. For older surfaces showing significant wear, understanding the cost to resurface a driveway can provide an alternative to full replacement.
- An Exceptional Level of Durability: Tough enough and highly resistant to weather exposure, this finish offers amazing durability. Its special formula and mix ratio reinforce the surface to bear traffic loads from pedestrians and motor vehicles. Proper care, as detailed in our guide to residential concrete maintenance, can keep these surfaces intact for decades, providing a great long-term investment.
- An Eco-Friendly Option: Choosing this material is an environmentally friendly decision. Its longevity discourages frequent replacements, lessening waste volume. The use of sustainable materials, such as recycled glass or waste plastic, can also give it an eco-friendly character while adding extra sparkle to the design.
- A Versatile Level of Application: This finish is not just limited to driveways. It can flawlessly blend into various outdoor environments, such as pathways, sidewalks, patios, and pool surrounds. This versatility provides a coherent design where all features blend with their surroundings. Should you need to make precise alterations or remove sections later, knowing the concrete cutting cost can help you budget accordingly.
- Strength and Grades: Another characteristic to consider is the strength of the mix, measured in megapascals (MPa). Standard grades generally fall between 20 and 50 MPa. This type of finish normally needs 25 MPa or 32 MPa to ensure lasting durability. The total project cost will often reflect the strength and special finish required. A special-class mix like this provides great durability and resistance to weather, traffic, and wear. With frequent sealing and upkeep, it can last for up to 30 years or even longer.

Understanding Prices Per Square Metre
Exposed aggregate will generally come within the price range of $100 to $150 per square metre for the materials, which will not be counting the labour costs from the specialist installers. Nevertheless, the pricing may vary depending on certain factors, like your location and the level of difficulty of your design. Unlike any regular concrete, this decorative finish will have a higher cost but will provide you with the best quality in terms of its appeal and its durability, which can make it a popular choice for any driveway. If you are ordering your mix from your local company, the price will be listed by the cubic metre and can range somewhere between $200 and $350, and it can vary depending on its strength. This is a key component of the overall cost.
Besides the material expenses for your installation, a professional concreter will bill you an average of $67.50 per hour for their services. This, however, can be different for the different parts of Australia.
Compared to a regular-class finish ($60–$85 per square metre) and a reinforced finish ($65–$90 per square metre), an exposed aggregate surface is a more premium material to go for when you are considering your design options.
Nevertheless, a driveway or a pool deck area that features this high-quality finish is normally left to the owner's discretion as to if the investment will be worth the effort. Many people will find the long-term value of a professional installation will justify the initial outlay.
A Detailed Breakdown: The Cost Per Cubic Metre
Exposed aggregate can provide you with a wholesome mix of toughness and visual allure that can make a custom finish a favourite option for a diverse range of outdoor applications. Here's what you will need to know about the cost factors that are associated with this versatile material:
Labour Costs for Services
Beyond the material expenses, a specialist will be paid an average of $67.50 per hour for their services. These labour costs, which are a significant part of the overall price, can vary by the job type and the project's location when you are seeking a local provider. A proper installation by a professional contractor can guarantee you the correct techniques, which can enhance the durability and the aesthetic quality of your high-quality project.
Cost Per Cubic Metre for the Mix
When you are ordering your concrete directly from a supplier, the prices will be calculated per cubic metre (m³). You should be ready to spend from $200 to $350 per cubic metre of a specialised mix if you are considering its strength and its quality. Any extra costs for your services may come up in the case that you are demolishing or removing any existing surfaces, and those charges may cover any cutting and demolition work.
What Factors Can Affect the Prices and Overall Cost?
Several different factors can influence the overall project cost and the final price for your job, whether it is for a driveway or for another application:
- Type and Size of the Stone: The specific aggregate that is used—whether it is a crushed stone, some pebbles, or some shells—will affect the material costs for your design. Any larger or any niche stones for your custom finish will involve a higher cost.
- Complexity of the Design: Any more elaborate patterns and any specialty finishes may require a greater level of labour from a specialist and some more material resources. Any simpler designs will be the most affordable, and the more elaborate ones will demand a higher level of craftsmanship skill from a top concreter and will ultimately take some additional time.
- Your Location: Any regional differences in the costs of the materials and the labour can add to your project's expenses for any services. Any sites with higher costs of living will usually have higher construction costs too, which can impact those who are searching for a local provider.
- Conditions of Your Site: Your site's conditions, including its soil quality and its availability, will play a big role in the preparation and the installation costs. Any extensive site preparation for your driveway can incur some extra expenses.
Compared to a regular finish, an exposed aggregate surface may be more costly initially, but the durability, the visual appeal, and the low level of maintenance that is associated with a high-quality finish can make it a good option for any outdoor project. Collaborating with a competent and an experienced concreter can guarantee you a top-tier installation and a long-term, beautiful result.
