Planning Your Air Conditioner Installation

A little preparation goes a long way. Before you post your task on ServiceTasker, consider the following details to get the most accurate quotes.

1. Choose the Right System Type

• Split Systems: Best for cooling single rooms or open-plan living areas. They are cost-effective and relatively quick to install.

• Ducted Systems: Best for whole-home cooling. These require significant planning and roof space, usually involving both a refrigeration mechanic and an electrician.

2. Estimate the Size Required

• The capacity (kW) you need depends on room size, insulation, and window orientation. An under-powered unit will run constantly, while an overpowered unit will cycle too frequently.

• A general rule of thumb is approximately 150-160 watts per square metre. For example, a 20m² bedroom generally requires a 2.5kW to 3.5kW unit.

3. Understand the Installation Requirements

Installation involves more than just mounting the unit. It requires electrical wiring, piping, and drainage. When posting your task, mention if the installation is "back-to-back" (easiest) or if pipes need to run through internal walls or ceilings.
