Best Metal and Colorbond Roofers For Your Residential And Commercial Buildings
Metal and Colorbond roofing are popular choices across Australia thanks to their durability, energy efficiency, and long lifespan. Suitable for both residential homes and large-scale commercial or industrial buildings, Colorbond steel is engineered to withstand harsh Australian weather conditions. With decades of proven performance, it offers strong corrosion resistance and thermal efficiency — helping reflect heat during summer and retain warmth in winter.
The cost of installing a Colorbond roof varies depending on factors such as roof size, pitch, design complexity, and any additional components like flashings, gutters, or downpipes. On average, material costs typically range between $18 and $36 per square metre, while installation can range from $80 to $150 per square metre. For a standard three-bedroom home, total project costs generally fall between $6,000 and $15,000, depending on the selected finish, such as standard, coastal-grade, or matte options.
Metal roofing is widely chosen for its low maintenance requirements, fire resistance, and potential lifespan of up to 50 years when properly installed and maintained. It is also a sustainable option, as steel roofing materials are recyclable and manufactured to meet Australian building standards for structural performance and energy efficiency.
Working with experienced roofing professionals helps ensure correct installation, compliance with local building regulations, and warranty-supported workmanship. Whether you are replacing an aging roof or installing a new one, obtaining multiple quotes and comparing services can help you make an informed decision and achieve a durable, weather-resistant result for your property.

Colorbond Roofing and Its Benefits
Colorbond roofing is manufactured from high-quality steel coated with a protective zinc-aluminium alloy layer to guard against corrosion and rust. It is then finished with a durable, baked-on colour coating that enhances protection against Australia’s harsh climate while providing a modern, attractive appearance. Below are some of the key benefits of choosing Colorbond roofing:
- Design Flexibility: Colorbond roofing offers excellent spanning capability, allowing for sleek architectural designs and larger column-free spaces. With a wide range of contemporary colours available, homeowners and designers can achieve cohesive roofing and wall cladding styles. The bonded paint finish also reduces the need for frequent repainting.
- Durability and Longevity: Designed to withstand tough Australian conditions, Colorbond steel has demonstrated long-term performance for decades. It is resistant to corrosion and termite damage, helping protect the structural integrity of your property while maintaining its visual appeal.
- Efficient Rainwater Collection: The smooth, sealed surface of Colorbond roofing makes it suitable for rainwater harvesting when installed with appropriate gutters and downpipes. Its protective coating helps maintain water quality by minimising contamination from roofing materials.
- Lightweight Construction: Compared to concrete or terracotta tiles, Colorbond roofing is significantly lighter. This reduces structural load on the roof frame, can lower installation complexity, and may decrease overall construction costs. Unlike concrete tiles, it does not absorb water and become heavier during rainfall.
- Fire Resistance: Being non-combustible, Colorbond steel is a suitable option for bushfire-prone areas. Properly installed metal sheets and flashings can help reduce ember entry and improve overall fire performance.

Metal Roofing And Its Benefits
If you are installing a roof on your new home, or replacing the existing one, knowing the Signs You Need A New Roof is the first step. There are multiple options available in the market. However, metal roofing can be an attractive option due to its longevity and low maintenance features. Material options cover corrugated iron, steel, aluminium, zinc, copper and tin. Let’s have a look at the multiple benefits of metal roofing below.
- Longer Lifespan: Metal roofs can last up to 40 to 70 years, depending on the kind of material and base metal thickness. Whereas, traditional roofing options have an average life of 10 to 12 years. This is a key reason many homeowners compare the Roof Tiling Cost with the long-term value of metal.
- Durability: If fitted correctly with high-quality fasteners, metal roofs can sustain strong winds up to 140 miles/hour, and will not easily corrode or crack up. And may get impact-resistant. Moreover, metal roofing and wall cladding do not need the periodic expensive maintenance that other roof materials require frequently. However, you must keep a regular check to ensure no repairs or fixes are needed. Learning How To Inspect Your Roof For Damage can help you spot issues before they become severe.
- Energy efficient: Metal roofing reflects the sun rays (UV) and infrared light which contributes to the roof's radiant heat surface and thermal efficiency. This further results in 10-25% lesser cooling costs. So, if you want to save on utility bills, go with metal roofing in Australia.
- Safety Purpose: Metal roofs do not spark or ignite into flames at times of lighting strikes or bushfires. So, you can rest assured that your overhead protection won’t catch fire and reside peacefully.
- Eco-friendly: The metal roofs have 25%-95% recycled content making them eco-friendly. Moreover, metal roofings are 100% recyclable after you like to replace them. Contrasting this, many shingle tear-off wastes add up to the building waste steam which is up to 20 Billion dollars every year.

Looking at getting a quote for roof replacement on the patio, carport and garage at our property. Thank you
We have an sheet metal roof (zincalume monoclad sheeting) which is at the end of its service life and requires replacement. We would be looking at replacing this with zincalume sheeting. Our roof uses timber battens which are in good condition, however an additional row of battens may be required (currently roof battens are at 1200 - 1500mm centers), would need to be included in the quote.

At least 3 leaks in the roof. The insulation is between the batons and the iron making it hard to find the leaks. There is good access to the ceiling cavity. The house is just over 20 years old and the leaks started approximately 10 years ago..
